Frequently Asked Questions about Permanent Cosmetics
How is the Permanent Makeup procedure done?
Permanent cosmetic procedures are performed using various methods. The most commonly used is the rotary machine and the second way is the hand tool or Softap I am certified in both procedures. The process includes an initial consultation, procedure and one follow-up visit for any adjustments to shape or color density.
Who Benefits from Permanent Cosmetics?
EVERYONE, from the young to the elderly who desires a soft, natural enhancement to their appearance. It is especially beneficial to people who can’t wear other cosmetics due to allergies or skin sensitivities. Active people who want to look their best for activities such as swimming, biking camping, tennis, or aerobics and those who don’t want to worry about “sweating off” or reapplying cosmetics. Also, the vision impaired who have difficulty applying their cosmetics and others with motor impairments such as arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, stroke survivors and those with unsteady hands.
Are Permanent Cosmetics really permanent?
Technically, permanent cosmetics procedures are considered permanent because the color is implanted into the upper reticular part of the dermal layer of the skin and cannot be washed off. However, as with any tattoo, fading can and often does occur, requiring periodic color refreshing. After your first application you come back 4-6 weeks later for a touch-up which is included in the cost.
What Type of Permanent Cosmetic Procedures can be done?
Permanent cosmetic procedures can be very subtle or dramatic depending on what you are wanting to achieve. Some clients want to be enhanced upon waking and apply additional makeup for the day and others want the permament cosmetics to reflect their makeup application and add nothing to it. Options include:
• Eyebrows
• Eyeliner
• Eyelash Enhancement
• Lipliner
• Full Lips
• Beauty Mark
How long does each procedure take?
The initial procedure will generally take approximately 2 hours. Touch-up procedures do not require as much time.
Is it Painful?
There is some discomfort and this varies with individuals. I use topical and sometimes local anesthetics to greatly reduce discomfort.
How long is healing time?
Between 4-7 days sometimes less depending on the area treated. You are provided with aftercare instructions and ointment.
How long does Permanent Makeup last?
The softening of color varies with each individual. A color boost for blonde eyebrows may be needed in 2-3 years versus a color boost for black eyeliner may not be for 8 years. The darker the pigment, the longer it lasts. Individuals using exfoliating products such as alpha hydroxy/beta hydroxy acids, and retinoids in products and those getting tans will soften color sooner.
